New Be Free Day Toric Contact Lenses for Myopia and Astigmatism

Children and teens with both myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism have historically had fewer contact lens options available to them. A newly FDA-cleared daily disposable contact lens from Euclid Vision is helping expand those options.

Euclid Vision Corporation recently announced FDA clearance of the Be Free® Day Toric contact lens, a daily disposable multifocal toric contact lens designed for patients who have myopia and astigmatism.
 

What Is the Be Free Day Toric Lens?

Be Free Day Toric combines the optical design of Euclid's Be Free Day lens with toric correction for astigmatism. The lens incorporates technology from the Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI) and is designed to provide clear, comfortable vision in a convenient daily disposable contact lens.

This is particularly exciting because astigmatism is common among people with myopia. According to data cited by Euclid Vision, approximately 25% of patients with myopia have clinically significant astigmatism.

Until recently, having astigmatism could limit the daily disposable specialty contact lens options available to these patients.
 

Why Daily Disposable Contact Lenses?

Daily disposable lenses can be an excellent option for children, teens, and adults because a fresh pair of lenses is used each day.

There are no lenses to clean or store overnight, which can simplify contact lens care and make it easier for younger patients and busy families to incorporate contact lenses into their routine.

The Be Free Day Toric lens expands these options to patients who also require correction for astigmatism.
 

Who May Be a Candidate?

Be Free Day Toric may be an option for patients with myopia and astigmatism who are interested in daily disposable contact lenses.

However, every patient's eyes and prescription are different. A comprehensive eye examination and contact lens evaluation are necessary to determine whether these lenses are an appropriate choice.

It is also important to distinguish FDA clearance for vision correction from FDA approval for myopia control. Although Be Free Day lenses incorporate a specialized multifocal optical design, the FDA clearance does not establish the lenses as approved for slowing the progression of myopia.
