Dry eye is one of the most common concerns we see in our office. Patients often describe symptoms such as burning, irritation, redness, blurred vision, or a gritty sensation in the eyes. While many artificial tears are available, new technologies continue to improve how well eye drops work and how comfortable they feel.
A recently introduced option is TearRestore OneDrop, a preservative-free artificial tear designed for daily dry eye relief.
OneDrop is an over-the-counter lubricating eye drop formulated to help relieve symptoms of dry and irritated eyes. It is designed for daily use and is compatible with contact lenses, making it a convenient option for many patients.
The drop uses nanoemulsion technology, which allows the ingredients to spread evenly across the surface of the eye. This helps stabilize the tear film and provide hydration without causing the heavy blur sometimes associated with oil-based drops.
A healthy tear film has three important layers:
Oil layer – prevents tears from evaporating too quickly
Water layer – provides moisture and nourishment
Mucus layer – helps tears spread evenly across the eye
OneDrop is designed to support all three layers by combining several ingredients that work together to improve tear stability.
Propylene Glycol (0.6%)
This lubricating ingredient forms a protective layer on the eye’s surface and helps relieve irritation. It also retains moisture to keep the eyes hydrated.
Sodium Hyaluronate
A well-known ingredient in dry eye therapy, sodium hyaluronate can hold large amounts of water and helps keep tears on the eye longer.
Dimyristoyl Phosphatidylcholine (DMPC)
This ingredient supports the tear film’s lipid layer and helps reduce evaporation, which is especially important for patients with evaporative dry eye or meibomian gland dysfunction.
Castor Oil
Castor oil helps stabilize the tear film and improve moisture retention on the eye’s surface.
Dry eye disease can have different causes. Some patients do not produce enough tears, while others experience rapid tear evaporation due to meibomian gland dysfunction.
OneDrop is designed to help patients with:
Evaporative dry eye
Aqueous-deficient dry eye
Mixed dry eye conditions
Because of this broad approach, it may be helpful for many people experiencing chronic dry eye symptoms.
OneDrop is intended to be used once daily, although some patients may benefit from using it twice per day depending on symptoms. The drop comes in a preservative-free formulation, which can be gentler on the eyes—especially for people who need frequent lubrication.
Preservative-free drops are often recommended for patients with moderate to severe dry eye because preservatives in some eye drops can worsen irritation when used frequently.
While artificial tears can provide relief, they are only one part of dry eye management. In many cases, effective treatment may also include:
Warm compresses
Eyelid hygiene
Omega-3 supplementation
Prescription treatments
In-office therapies
Every patient’s dry eye condition is different, so the best treatment plan depends on the underlying cause of the problem.
If you are experiencing dry eye symptoms such as burning, tearing, fluctuating vision, or eye fatigue, a comprehensive dry eye evaluation can help determine the best treatment options for your eyes.
